Armenia's Civil Contract party is dominating the early counts in the nation's parliamentary election, securing 54.44% of the vote according to public TV broadcasts of initial results from Armenia's electoral commission.
The election comes after Armenia's military defeat by Azerbaijan in 2023, serving as a referendum on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's pro-Western policies and efforts to broker peace with Azerbaijan.
The pro-Russian opposition, led by Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party, garnered about 22%, while voter turnout was notably high at almost 59%, setting the stage for official results expected from the Central Election Commission.
