TMC-MP Exodus: A New Ally for BJP?
Nearly 20 Trinamool Congress MPs, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, signal intent to align with BJP's NDA, creating ripples in West Bengal's politics. The move follows internal TMC discord and aims to surpass legal anti-defection stipulations, marking a significant turning point in regional and national political dynamics.

In a dramatic political shift, approximately 20 Members of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have indicated their intention to depart from the party's current political direction and are looking to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This development was confirmed by rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar with a 'Thumbs Up' emoji during a conversation with an ANI reporter on Monday.
The MPs have issued a formal letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, voicing their support for the NDA and indicating a potential reshaping of West Bengal's political landscape and national parliamentary dynamics. This comes in the wake of TMC's electoral defeat which led to West Bengal's first BJP government under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The divide within TMC was evident as leader Mamata Banerjee attended an opposition meeting in New Delhi, while dissident MPs, including former Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Shekhar Ray, who resigned earlier on Monday, gathered at Union Minister Bhupender Yadav's residence. The dissident strategy appears to focus on ensuring compliance with the legal requirements of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution to protect against disqualification.
