TMC's Rising Rebellion: 20 MPs Seek New Dawn Amidst Turmoil

In a dramatic twist, 20 MPs from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) are rallying for a restructuring of the party, advocating for a 'joint engine government' with the BJP. Arup Chakraborty leads this faction amid growing internal dissent, questioning leadership dynamics and seeking a new direction post-2026 election setbacks.

Amid escalating tensions within the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), rebel party MP Arup Chakraborty declared on Friday that about 20 MPs back a dissident faction aiming to 'rebuild TMC in a new form' in cooperation with a 'joint engine government' between the state and the Centre. Chakraborty highlighted that the Bharatiya Janata Party's support is assured for the party, aligning the rebel MPs with the ruling power.

In a conversation with ANI, Chakraborty, who seeks distinct seating in Parliament, reaffirmed, 'We have the support of 20 MPs.' In response to accusations by senior TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee, alleging the dissidents' power hunger and association with the BJP, Chakraborty countered, stating, 'These allegations are unfounded. We aim to rescue TMC. With public support, we advocate for a structural shift, not sycophancy.'

As internal conflicts intensify, confirmed resignations from 19 MPs, including notable figures like Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, indicate a looming organizational divide. This schism follows the TMC's unsatisfactory 2026 Assembly election performance, exacerbating friction between party elders and the central leadership under Mamata Banerjee.
