The Keralam government's introduction of the Priyadarshini Scheme marks a significant effort to enhance mobility for women and transgender individuals, offering them free travel on state-run buses. This new measure, aiming to reduce travel expenses and boost opportunities, has been quickly embraced by those it intends to serve.
Among the enthusiastic supporters is Sheela, a KSRTC bus driver, who called it a memorable milestone in her career. Since joining KSRTC in 2013, Sheela expressed that she had not witnessed such a groundbreaking initiative. She believes the scheme will provide substantial benefits to women across the state.
The scheme was ceremoniously introduced by Chief Minister V D Satheesan, who flagged off the inaugural bus, marking its widespread implementation. The government views this initiative as not only a subsidy but a step towards social inclusion and economic empowerment, extending to all 3,125 ordinary KSRTC buses across Keralam.
