German minister demands more clarity before Germany joins Hormuz mission
Germany's participation in a mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz is unlikely without more clarity on the framework agreement between the US and Iran, according to Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

The conditions are not yet in place for Germany to participate in a mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Wednesday at a German-Polish Forum in Berlin. Before the German government can draw up a mandate for such a mission, more clarity is needed, he said.
He said he does not want to learn the details of the 14 points in the negotiated framework agreement between the U.S. and Iran solely from press releases. "I want to know what the content is," Wadephul said. "Germany needs to know whether such a mission is possible in that sea area, which means that the neighbouring states must give their consent." So far, he said, there has been "at the very least a lack of clarity" on this matter.
