Marine Drive Promenade Reopens Amid Mixed Reactions

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reopened the 1.1 km-long promenade along Marine Drive, which was previously closed for coastal road work. This reopening follows the completion of the south-to-north phase. Despite upgrades, some citizens have expressed disappointment over the absence of trees.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reopened the 1.1 km-long promenade along Marine Drive. The path, which stretches from G D Somani Chowk to Savitribai Phule Girls Hostel, was earlier closed for coastal road construction work but is now accessible to pedestrians with the completion of the south-to-north phase.

Additionally, the road along Marine Drive has been expanded to 10.6 metres, stretching from the Princess Street Flyover to the Mafatlal Club signal. A new service road adjacent to the Princess Street Flyover provides access to the northern tunnel. The civic body has also installed tetrapods to mitigate the impact of sea waves and enhanced the area's seating and street lighting.

However, the reopening has not been entirely well-received. Many citizens took to social media platform X to express their discontent over the lack of trees in the redesigned area.
