Delhi Braces for Intense Weekend Downpour: IMD Issues Caution

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Delhi over the weekend, bringing respite from the heat. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected on June 28, with potential localized flooding and waterlogging on June 29 and 30.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in Delhi this weekend, as parts of the city were already lashed by showers on Thursday. This forecast brings much-needed respite from the oppressive heat for Delhiites.

According to the IMD's weather bulletin, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places across Delhi and other states on June 28. Specifically, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Delhi on June 29 and 30.

Heavy rain, as per IMD definitions, ranges between 64.5 mm and 124.4 mm in a day, while very heavy rain ranges between 124.5 mm and 244.4 mm in a day. The IMD has advised precautions against localized flooding, potential waterlogging in low-lying areas, and the possible closure of underpasses due to very heavy rainfall.
