A breach in the Munak Canal from Haryana to Delhi caused significant waterlogging in Bawana Colony, leaving residents stranded in their homes, police reported. The water inundated J, K, and L blocks early Thursday, raising alarm among locals.
'We alerted all relevant departments, including the NDRF, Flood Control Department, Public Welfare Department, and MCD, immediately after the canal overflowed,' a police official stated. Efforts to reduce the water flow from Sonipat and close the canal gates were coordinated with Haryana authorities.
Delhi water minister Atishi addressed the situation via X, stating that the breach occurred in a sub-branch of the Munak Canal. She assured that the Delhi Jal Board and Haryana Irrigation Department are working closely to divert water and complete repairs, promising the canal will be operational by tomorrow.
