A massive fire broke out at a cafe in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar and gutted several shops on the building's upper floors, officials revealed on Monday.

The blaze, which started on the ground floor Sunday night, quickly spread to stores on the first and second floors, they reported.

Currently, the fire is under control, although three to four fire tenders are still at the scene for cooling operations, according to an official from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).

''We received a call about a fire at a cafe and school uniform store at 11:40 pm on Sunday in Phase 2 and Pocket B of the Mayur Vihar area,'' the official explained.

''We dispatched 25 fire tenders to the spot. One person was rescued from the building's terrace,'' he noted.

Two brothers, Amar Preet Singh and Suman Jeet Singh, who have three shops on the building's upper floors, had closed their shops at 9:30 pm and headed home. At 11:30 pm, they were informed by locals about the fire and notified the Pandav Nagar police station, said a police officer.

No casualties have been reported so far, he added.

The fire started in the ground-floor cafe and spread to the other two floors, the officer stated.

The officer also mentioned that while the fire is under control, it is not yet completely doused, and the cause remains unidentified.
