Karnataka Deputy CM Urges Unified Effort for Better Bengaluru

Addressing a cross-party gathering, Shivakumar discussed the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill and emphasized the need for collective action to address issues like infrastructure, water, and traffic in the rapidly growing city.

In a significant call for unity, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday urged opposition leaders in Bengaluru to put aside political differences and collaborate for the city’s development. While addressing elected representatives across party lines at the 'Public Voice-Government Voice' programme, Shivakumar stressed the need for concerted efforts to resolve pressing issues such as infrastructure, traffic, and water supply, encapsulated in the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill.
Shivakumar reassured the attendees about the transparency of the proposed bill and invited feedback and active participation in forming a House committee to enhance governance. Highlighting contributions made by historical figures to the city's development, he called for swift actions to manage Bengaluru's rapid growth and infrastructural challenges. Additionally, he unveiled plans to introduce new tourist attractions and a revised system for Transfer of Development Rights.
The Deputy Chief Minister revealed that over 70,000 public suggestions have been received to improve the city's conditions, indicating an inclusive approach to municipal governance. A booklet on Brand Bengaluru was also released at the event, attended by prominent leaders including the Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and Housing Minister Jameer Ahmed.
