India's Climate Crisis: Extreme Weather Events Unleashed

Recent years have seen India grappling with extreme weather events like floods, droughts, and cyclones. Experts attribute these to climate change. Notable incidents include deadly landslides in Kerala, unprecedented floods in Assam, and severe cyclones in southern India. The situation has resulted in significant loss of lives, property, and wildlife.

India has faced a series of extreme weather conditions in recent years, ranging from torrential rains and floods to droughts and cyclones. According to experts, these events are attributed to the growing impact of climate change.

In one of the most devastating incidents, landslides killed over 50 people in Kerala's tea estates on July 30. Delhi experienced heavy rains in June that led to catastrophic flooding, including an airport roof collapse and loss of lives in a flooded classroom.

Assam and Mumbai also witnessed deadly floods, while a severe cyclone hit the southeastern coast in December 2023. Additionally, a Himalayan glacial lake outburst in Sikkim caused the region's worst flooding in 50 years. India's southern state of Kerala faced its most severe flood in a century in 2018, underscoring the recurring nature of these extreme events.
