Keerala's Resilient Response: Coordinated Rescue in Wayanad

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced an ongoing rescue mission in Wayanad, following a devastating landslide that has resulted in 173 deaths. Four ministers are overseeing efforts, with special focus on rehabilitation and psychological support for survivors. The Indian Army's construction of a Bailey Bridge is aiding the mission.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Thursday that the rescue mission in the landslide-afflicted Mundakkai region of Wayanad could extend over several days. As part of the ongoing efforts, a cabinet sub-committee of four ministers has been appointed to oversee and coordinate the operation.

The appointed ministers will remain stationed in Wayanad, where torrential rain-induced landslides have claimed at least 173 lives. Addressing the media after an all-party meeting, Vijayan commended the heroic efforts of rescue workers, particularly the Indian Army.

The chief minister was informed by Army representatives that all potential survivors trapped in debris have been rescued. However, numerous people remain missing, and the region's topography has complicated initial search operations. With the construction of the Army's Bailey Bridge nearing completion, accessing and moving rescue equipment has become more feasible.

Vijayan further detailed ongoing measures, including the resumption of education for affected children and psychological counseling for survivors. He also called for the media's cooperation in respecting the privacy of families at relief camps. Various preventive steps are being taken to curb potential outbreaks of infectious diseases, while efforts are also underway to replace important documents and certificates lost in the disaster.

Moreover, major donations have been poured into the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF), with the promise of a united state effort to tackle the crisis.
