Tragedy in Wayanad: 195 Dead in Landslides, Rescue Efforts Continue

In a tragic turn of events, a devastating landslide in Wayanad has claimed 195 lives, according to District Collector Meghashree D R. The catastrophe, which took place two days ago, has left many more missing and rescue teams working tirelessly to find survivors.
Genetic testing is currently being used to identify multiple body parts recovered from the disaster site. Earlier in the day, Kerala ADGP M R Ajith Kumar reported that approximately 300 people are still unaccounted for.
So far, 190 bodies have been identified, with the district administration confirming that this tally includes 76 women and 27 children. Rescue efforts continue despite challenging conditions, including waterlogged soil and damaged infrastructure.
Additionally, 279 autopsies have been performed, and 107 bodies have been identified. Over 9,328 displaced people have been moved to 91 relief camps in the district, as the search for survivors persists amidst the rubble and destruction.
