Hoarding Collapse in Kalyan: Civic Responsibility Questioned

A hoarding collapsed in Kalyan, Maharashtra, crushing three vehicles. Although no injuries were reported, Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) officials pledged to hold the contractor accountable. They promised compensation and preventive checks on all hoardings to avoid future incidents.

In an incident that has raised questions about civic responsibility, a hoarding collapsed in Kalyan, Maharashtra's Thane district on Friday morning, crushing three vehicles. An official confirmed that the collapse occurred around 10:30 am at the busy Sahajanand Chowk and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Kalyan Tehsildar Sachin Shejal stated that the hoarding came crashing down on the vehicles parked beneath it. Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioner Indurani Jakhad, who visited the site, vowed to take action against the contractor for failing to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs). A formal complaint will be lodged with the police.

Jakhad reiterated that the contractor would be held liable for any vehicle damage and medical costs of injured individuals, if any. A KDMC release mentioned that efforts would be made to ensure those affected receive compensation and vowed that all hoardings in the area would be thoroughly checked to prevent any recurrence of such accidents. Additional commissioner Harshal Gaikwad and deputy commissioner of KDMC's property department Ramesh Misal also reviewed the site.
