Debby Set to Devastate: Florida Braces for Potential Hurricane Impact

Tropical Storm Debby is rapidly advancing and expected to become a hurricane, threatening Florida's Gulf Coast and potentially bringing historic rainfall and catastrophic flooding to Georgia and South Carolina. Governor Ron DeSantis has mobilized National Guard troops and ordered evacuations in affected areas. Heavy rain and storm surges are anticipated along Debby's path.

Tropical Storm Debby is forecasted to strengthen quickly into a hurricane before making landfall in Florida's Big Bend region, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC). The agency issued warnings about life-threatening surges and significant rainfall in the storm's path. Debby is expected to bring between 10 and 20 inches of rain, causing potential catastrophic flooding in Georgia and South Carolina.

In response, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has deployed 3,000 National Guard troops and mandated emergency orders across many cities and counties. Localized evacuations have been ordered in Gulf Coast counties. As of 11 a.m. EDT on Sunday, Debby was located 130 miles southwest of Tampa and moving northwards at 13 mph with winds reaching up to 65 mph.

The storm is projected to move across the eastern Gulf of Mexico and approach the Florida Big Bend coast by Monday morning. Following landfall, Debby is expected to weaken but will still deliver heavy rainfall as it moves across central Florida and towards the Atlantic coast. The NHC has issued tropical storm warnings for parts of southern Florida up to Fort Myers.
