Hurricane Ernesto Wreaks Havoc on Bermuda

Hurricane Ernesto made landfall on Bermuda causing widespread power outages and threatening significant coastal flooding due to its size and slow movement. Residents were advised to remain cautious as the storm continues. Ernesto also caused severe damage and power shortages in Puerto Rico and the broader Caribbean region.

Hurricane Ernesto made landfall on the tiny British Atlantic territory of Bermuda early Saturday morning. Residents continued to hunker down as the hurricane brought with it strong winds, dangerous storm surges, and significant coastal flooding.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Ernesto, now exhibiting a large rain-free center region, will move past Bermuda soon. Although the storm has slowed down, hurricane-strength winds are expected to continue until Saturday afternoon, with tropical storm-strength winds extending into Sunday.

More than 26,000 customers were without power as the storm battered the island. While no major damages have been reported yet, the Emergency Measures Organisation is actively assessing the situation. Ernesto also affected Puerto Rico severely, causing power and water shortages, and delaying the reopening of schools.
