Flash floods and mudslides across Thailand brought by monsoon rains have claimed 22 lives and injured 19, authorities reported on Monday. The devastating weather event has impacted 30,000 households, with officials urging caution as further risks linger in some provinces.
A Russian couple and nine migrant workers from Myanmar were among the 13 people killed in a mudslide on Phuket Island, following torrential rainfall across a dozen provinces last week.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra distributed food supplies during weekend visits to flood-stricken homes in the northern province of Nan. Meanwhile, rescuers are working to free three workers trapped after a tunnel collapsed at a Thai-China railway project in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Severe flooding continues in five northern provinces, including Chiang Rai, Sukhothai, and Prae. There is also a high risk of rising waters near the Chao Phraya River, including in Bangkok, though water levels remain manageable for now.
