A powerful typhoon named Shanshan is approaching Japan's southwestern islands, with the Japan Meteorological Agency advising residents to brace for heavy rain and violent winds projected over the next few days.

By Tuesday morning, Typhoon Shanshan was positioned about 130 kilometers east of the southern island of Amami, advancing slowly northward toward Kyushu while carrying winds reaching up to 162 kilometers per hour. Although no damage has been reported thus far, residents are preparing for the forecasted downpour and strong winds.

Japan Railway companies have announced the potential suspension of Shinkansen super-express trains operations in Kyushu and extensive portions of Honshu from Wednesday to Sunday. The JMA expects up to 400 millimeters of rainfall on Amami Island within 24 hours, and up to 500 millimeters in the Kyushu region from Wednesday to Thursday. Fishers in the Kyushu region have been securing their boats to port facilities in anticipation of the severe weather.
