Operation Bhediya: Wolf Capture Campaign in Uttar Pradesh

A forest department team in Uttar Pradesh captured a fully grown male wolf under 'Operation Bhediya.' The operation aims to capture wolves in Mehsi tehsil of Bahraich district that have killed seven people. The team has captured four wolves so far, using drones and thermal mapping techniques.

In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh forest department successfully captured a fully grown male wolf on Thursday, marking another milestone under 'Operation Bhediya.' Launched to capture a pack of wolves terrorizing Mehsi tehsil in Bahraich district, the operation has captured four wolves so far.

Barabanki Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Akashdeep Badhawan, who oversees the operation, reported that the wolf was trapped in a cage in Sisayya Chudamani village. 'The captured wolf is a fully grown male,' he confirmed.

The wolves have killed six children and one woman in recent weeks. Drones and thermal mapping are being employed to track the wolves, with permissions secured for tranquilization. Principal Chief Forest Conservator Sanjay Srivastava affirmed that 16 teams and 12 district-level officers are on the ground, with Additional Principal Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh supervising until the mission is complete.
