In a disturbing turn of events, around 50 villages in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district have been terrorized by a series of wolf attacks. According to S P Yadav, head of the International Big Cat Alliance, diseases like rabies or canine distemper virus could be the culprits behind this spate of aggression.

Yadav emphasized that a proper analysis of the captured wolves is crucial to determine the exact cause. Since mid-July, a pack of six wolves has killed eight people and injured over 20 in the district.

Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh confirmed that a fifth wolf was captured on Tuesday as part of the ongoing 'Operation Bhediya'. The state's forest department has deployed 165 personnel and 18 shooters, utilizing thermal cameras and snap cameras to track the remaining wolves.
