North Korea's Covert Uranium Enrichment Site: A Closer Look
Photos of North Korea's uranium enrichment facility might reveal an undeclared site near its capital, analysts suggest. The images showed leader Kim Jong Un inspecting advanced centrifuges. Experts identify the site as Kangson, suspected to be a covert enrichment plant. The facility hints at significant progress in North Korea's nuclear capabilities.
Photos of North Korea's uranium enrichment facility possibly reveal an undeclared site for building nuclear bombs close to its capital, according to analysts.
For the first time, North Korea released images of fuel-producing centrifuges, as leader Kim Jong Un visited the site and called for more weapons-grade material to bolster the arsenal. The images featured Kim walking between rows of metal centrifuges, with no mention of the facility's location.
Experts, including Jeffrey Lewis from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, suspect the site, known as Kangson, is a covert uranium enrichment plant. Satellite imagery and the distinctive construction features seen in the photos further reinforce this theory.
