Delhi's Green Solution: Centralized Silt Disposal to Curb Monsoon Chaos
Delhi's Municipal Corporation has established a silt disposal site at the Shinghola reclaimed landfill to mitigate waterlogging issues during monsoons. This site aids in the systematic removal and disposal of silt from various city zones, reducing flooding risks in low-lying areas by preventing drain re-choking.

Amidst Delhi's annual monsoon challenges, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a centralized silt disposal site on reclaimed landfill land. This initiative aims to tackle the perennial problem of waterlogging by ensuring the proper disposal of desilted waste from the city's drains and stormwater channels.
The newly established silt disposal zone, situated at the Shinghola site, marks a significant step in waste management. The site was developed by biomining 7.6 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste, effectively freeing up 6.61 acres for this environmentally sound purpose, an official confirmed.
This strategic measure is expected to minimize the risk of drain re-choking and subsequent flooding in low-lying areas, particularly during the monsoon peaks. The MCD's comprehensive approach involves multiple zones such as Narela, Keshavpuram, and Shahdara, contributing to a more organized city-wide drainage improvement effort.
