Lahore, Pakistan, has once more topped the list as the most polluted city worldwide, showcasing alarmingly high levels of smog that break World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, according to private tech company data released on Monday.

The Punjab region, with Lahore as its capital, lacks an independent air quality index, yet the provincial government claims to be vigorously implementing a Smog Emergency Plan focusing primarily on Lahore. IQAir reported that Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) reached a staggering 312, with PM2.5 particulate matter concentrations standing at 190.5 micrograms per cubic meter, over 25 times the WHO's annual air quality guideline.

On Monday, Lahore surpassed other polluted cities such as Delhi and Kolkata, with its AQI peaking to 412 last week. Environmental experts urge citizens to limit outdoor activities during high-pollution times and to wear masks outside, while the government continues efforts to enforce anti-pollution measures like stricter controls on emissions and burning waste.
