On Saturday, part of a road in Shimla sank, allegedly due to nearby tunnel construction activities, forcing authorities to halt the work indefinitely. Officials confirmed this development after a local incident involving a school bus highlighted safety concerns.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap directed senior district officials to submit a detailed report on the tunnel construction behind the Kaithlighat-Dhalli four-lane project. As a preventive measure, the district has reached out to the State Disaster Management Authority, fearing potential disasters.
Witnesses reported that a schoolgirl was rescued after falling into the pit caused by the subsidence. Moreover, locals have noted cracks in their homes, prompting an investigation. An official report is being prepared for the Survey of India to address these pressing issues.
