A low-pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal, with expectations of it intensifying into a depression by November 24, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.

This meteorological phenomenon is influenced by a cyclonic circulation near the Malacca Strait over the South Andaman Sea. It is projected to move west-northwestwards and strengthen over the southeast Bay of Bengal, potentially deepening over the southwest region in the subsequent 48 hours, the IMD detailed in a special bulletin.

While weather scientists remain uncertain if this low-pressure system will escalate into a cyclonic storm, they assure timely updates. With heavy rain anticipated in coastal and southern areas, locals are preemptively harvesting paddy crops nearing maturity. Despite these developments, the state Agriculture department has yet to issue any advisories for farmers. However, forecasts predict dry conditions in Odisha due to the system's current distance, as per Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
