Colombo, Nov 30 (PTI) - Sri Lanka continues to reel from Cyclone Ditwah's destruction, with India playing a pivotal role in relief efforts. The cyclone has claimed over 200 lives, with over 9,98,918 people affected. India swiftly deployed its National Disaster Response Force and Air Force to aid in rescue and relief operations.
Operation Sagar Bandhu, launched by India, sees the Indian Air Force conducting daring rescue missions, including airlifting stranded individuals and critical casualties to safety. Meanwhile, two Chetak helicopters on the INS Vikrant provide invaluable aerial support. The Indian High Commission in Colombo is facilitating the return of stranded Indians.
The situation has prompted a state of emergency in Sri Lanka, granting district authorities expanded budgetary powers. Flood alerts have been issued, urging residents to evacuate. India's continued assistance, including the delivery of essential relief material, remains crucial as Sri Lanka navigates this crisis.
