The Bilaspur fisheries department launched an intensive two-day campaign against illegal fishing practices at Govind Sagar lake, registering six cases. These involved transporting illegal nets and fishing without a license. Officials acknowledged that 20 kilograms of unlicensed fish, valued at Rs 2,000, were seized, and fines totaling Rs 3,500 were collected on the spot.

The Assistant Director of the Bilaspur Fisheries Department, Pankaj Thakur, explained inspections took place across several areas within the region. Notably, fines and net seizures took place as the department intensifies its commitment to curb illegal fish trade activities.

The fisheries team confiscated 16 kg of fish in a separate illegal transport case and imposed a Rs 2,000 fine. Thakur emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal fishing in the Govind Sagar area, hinting at stricter future penalties for violations.
