The newly inaugurated infrastructure projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) mark a significant leap forward in Ladakh's development. Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta, speaking at the inauguration event, underscored the central government's steadfast commitment to the progress of the Union Territory.

The projects, inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, include the strategically notable Shayok tunnel on the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie Road. Spanning two Union Territories and seven states, the Rs 5,000 crore initiative is the most expensive in the BRO's history.

Gupta lauded the infrastructure enhancements for improving last-mile connectivity to remote and military-concerned areas, labeling it a historic milestone. These developments promise not only increased accessibility but also a boost in tourism and economic activity, thanks to improved routes to regions like Pangong and Tso Moriri.
