A thick blanket of fog significantly reduced visibility across the Indo-Gangetic plains on Friday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for Delhi. The advisory warns that road, rail, and air travel may face disruptions as a result.
IMD officials indicated that satellite images showed dense fog over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, as well as northeast Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Visibility plunged to zero in key locations, including Agra, Bareilly, Saharanpur, and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, along with several cities in Punjab and Bihar.
The IMD's warnings include difficult driving conditions and the potential for road accidents. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, such as using fog lights, checking traffic conditions, and staying informed through state transport advisories. Air and rail travelers are advised to monitor schedules closely.
