The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is embarking on a significant infrastructure upgrade across Lutyens Delhi, focusing on water billing accuracy and street lighting modernization. Starting with the installation of smart water meters to replace 5,500 defective units, this move aims to enhance billing precision and reduce errors, according to officials.

During an upcoming Council meeting, NDMC plans to approve a bid of Rs 13.24 crore for the implementation, addressing issues with outdated mechanical meters that are prone to frequent repairs and inaccurate readings. Smart meters promise greater accuracy and offer automatic readings through an advanced Meter Data Management system, reducing manual intervention.

In addition, the NDMC intends to advance its street lighting project under Phases 2 and 3, replacing conventional poles with octagonal ones, and re-installing LED fittings. This upgrade, costing Rs 15.86 crore, is anticipated to foster better safety, lower energy usage, and improved reliability, enhancing overall civic infrastructure in the area.
