Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that Kota is set to become a major growth centre in Rajasthan with the development of modern infrastructure, including a new airport. In a video message for the foundation-laying of a greenfield airport in Bundi's Shambhupura, Modi emphasized the project's potential to spur regional development.
The airport, estimated to cost approximately Rs 1,500 crore, aims to boost connectivity in the Hadoti region, covering Kota, Bundi, Baran, and Jhalawar. Before 2014, India had around 70 airports; today, that number exceeds 160, facilitating easier air travel and fostering tourism and employment opportunities.
Highlighting the mutual efforts of state and central governments, Modi stated that improved connectivity accelerates development. He also stressed the potential benefits for local industries, such as energy production and traditional products, to access wider markets. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, and Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu attended the ceremony.
