The government previously reported 23 deaths. Emergency personnel, including the military, are conducting ongoing search and rescue missions. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, minister for public service and human capital development, confirmed these efforts are aimed at locating and recovering all flood victims.

The floods have caused severe damage to infrastructure and livelihoods, although 172 vehicles swept away by floodwaters have been recovered. President William Ruto has ordered the release of relief food from national reserves for affected families. Scientists attribute worsening flooding and droughts in East Africa to climate change, with a study indicating these extreme weather events are increasingly likely.
