Massive Clean-Up: Delhi's C&D Waste Management Triumph

A special sanitation drive in Delhi successfully removed 1.52 lakh metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste within a month. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi deployed additional workforce and machinery to clear debris, significantly enhancing cleanliness and public infrastructure efficiency across the city.

The city of Delhi has embarked on a major sanitation initiative, clearing 1.52 lakh metric tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste in a focused month-long operation. Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reported that the drive, executed March 6 through March 31, targeted debris removal from roads, drains, and public areas.

Average daily waste collection soared to about 6,100 metric tonnes, a notable increase from January's 3,500 tonnes, as the campaign intensified efforts across all 12 municipal zones. The MCD statement highlighted the deployment of 50 extra sanitation workers per zone, utilizing heavy machinery such as JCBs and loaders to manage the debris accumulation effectively.

Approximately 79,406 metric tonnes of waste were lifted by the MCD, with the remaining 72,737 tonnes handled by other departments. The waste was transported to treatment facilities at Rani Khera, Shastri Park, Burari, and Bakkarwala. Smaller debris was managed by ward-level teams using auto tippers, emphasizing the drive's comprehensive approach in elevating urban cleanliness standards.
