A wild elephant named 'Muttikkomban' was captured on Friday morning due to threats it posed to Vadakkanad's people and crops, as reported by forest officials. This action came after numerous complaints from residents and failed attempts to drive the elephant back to the forest.

The elephant repeatedly trespassed into farms at night, damaging crops and solar fences. Despite intensified night patrols and the deployment of kumki elephants, 'Muttikkomban' kept returning, making the situation precarious for the local community.

Finally traced to the Thathur section, the elephant was successfully tranquilised by a veterinary team led by Dr Arun Zachariah. Currently, it is being treated for an injury to its trunk at Muthanga camp and will be fitted with a radio collar for close monitoring until it regains its strength.
