ISRO recently inaugurated Mission MITRA in Leh, Ladakh, marking a significant breakthrough in team behavioral studies critical to enhancing spaceflight safety and efficacy. The project, led by ISRO chairman V Narayanan, was meticulously planned to improve crew performance and safety in human space missions like Gaganyaan.
A collaboration between ISRO and the IAF-Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Mission MITRA is a pioneering effort to understand the physiological, psychological, and operational dynamics among crews and ground teams in high-altitude settings. It aims to provide essential insights into team interoperability and decision-making processes under stress.
Conducted at a high altitude of approximately 3,500 meters in Leh, the study utilizes challenging conditions such as hypoxia and isolation to simulate spaceflight environments, making it an invaluable component in testing and preparing teams for successful space missions.
