Union Minister Jitendra Singh recently unveiled plans to create space laboratories within universities and colleges across India. This groundbreaking initiative aims to establish seven labs that will offer practical training for students in areas like satellite systems and mission design.
With India's space sector witnessing an injection of over USD 600 million in private investments since its liberalization, these labs intend to cultivate a pipeline of talented youth. Singh also evaluated the progress in space reforms and the burgeoning involvement of private companies, which have grown from single digits to over 400 startups by early 2026.
Government efforts, such as the Rs 500 crore Technology Adoption Fund, are propelling innovations from concept to commercial products. Additionally, training programs have certified nearly 900 individuals in specialized fields including satellite manufacturing and space cybersecurity, reflecting a significant push towards building a skilled workforce in this dynamic industry.
