Three tigers were spotted strolling together on the main road passing through the heart of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district, with tourists capturing the rare moment on their cameras, a forest department official said on Tuesday. The footage of the three tigers was captured on Monday evening and it has since gone viral on social media. PTR Deputy Director Manish Singh told PTI that forest staff have been deployed to the site to monitor the movements of the tigers. Singh said the three tigers suddenly emerged from the jungle and stepped onto the road on Monday evening when the forest safaris were on. Tourists recorded the captivating scene on their mobile phones and the video quickly went viral. In the video, the three tigers can be seen walking along the road in a calm and composed manner. Singh said the PTR administration has become alert following the viral video and taken necessary measures to prevent any potential man-animal conflict. The PTR is a prominent tiger reserve in India, spanning across Pilibhit and Shahjahanpur districts of Uttar Pradesh. It was declared a tiger reserve in 2014 by the Uttar Pradesh government. The reserve covers an area of approximately 730 square kilometres. It holds special significance due to its location along the India-Nepal border. The PTR has been awarded with the prestigious international ''TX2 Award'' for successfully doubling its tiger population in a remarkably-short period. In addition to tigers, the reserve is home to leopards, swamp deer (barasingha), bears and more than 500 species of birds. It falls within the catchment area of rivers, such as the Sharda and the Ghaghra. The PTR represents a unique confluence of the Terai grasslands and dense sal forests. Chuka Beach and the Sharda Sagar dam are major tourist attractions within the reserve. Singh said the sighting of the three big cats on the road serves as proof that the tiger population in the PTR is thriving. From a security perspective, patrolling has been intensified along the affected stretch of the road, he added.
