The coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are bracing for intense heatwave conditions as temperatures are projected to rise two to three degrees Celsius above normal from today until May 5. The humidity levels are also expected to contribute to the discomfort across the region.
A bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai highlighted that specific areas, including Chennai(M), Erode, Karur, and Vellore, will experience notably higher temperatures. Vellore recorded the state's highest temperature, reaching a sizzling 42.4 degrees Celsius on Friday.
While some districts endure the sweltering conditions, weather forecasts indicate relief may be on the horizon with potential for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in Nilgiris, Theni, Erode, and a few other districts. Meanwhile, Oothu in Tirunelveli has already recorded 8 cm of rainfall in a day.
