The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the southwest monsoon is likely to make its entrance in Kerala around May 26, although the timing may vary by four days. The upcoming days are set to bring heavy rains, coupled with lightning and strong winds across parts of Kerala and Mahe.
This weather pattern stems from a cyclonic circulation over southern coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjacent regions, which is creating a low-pressure area extending over Kerala, south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and the southeast Arabian Sea near south Lakshadweep.
The IMD has issued an 'orange alert' for Kannur and Kasaragod districts due to potential very heavy rainfall, and a 'yellow alert' for ten other districts, with expectations of further advancement of the monsoon across the southeast Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
