Rajasthan continues to reel under an intense heatwave with temperatures nearing 46 degrees Celsius, a MeT department spokesperson said on Saturday.

The weather department warned of harsher conditions in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department's Jaipur centre, border district Jaisalmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 45.9 degrees.

Other severely affected areas included Barmer (45.1), Phalodi (45.0), Sri Ganganagar (44.6), Pilani (44.2), and Chittorgarh (44.0).

In Kota, the mercury settled at 43.8 degrees, while Lunkaransar recorded 42.6 degrees and Fatehpur 42.5 degrees. State capital Jaipur also witnessed intense heat, with the maximum temperature reaching 42.6 degrees, though a dust storm in the afternoon brought slight relief.

The weather office said most parts of the state are likely to experience dry conditions over the next week. From May 24, temperatures are expected to rise by two-three degrees, with heatwave conditions likely in several areas and severe heatwave conditions at isolated locations.

While gusty dust-laden winds at speeds of 20-“30 kmph may offer temporary respite in some regions, the overall outlook remains extremely hot.
