An unexpected implosion of a hazardous chemical tank at a pulp and paper mill in southwestern Washington state led to several injuries due to chemical burns and fumes inhalation. The fire department labeled the incident at Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co as a 'mass casualty scene'.
Mike Gorsuch from the Longview fire department confirmed that responders transported affected individuals to hospitals for treatment after decontaminating them on-site. Around 40 emergency personnel, including paramedics and a hazmat team, were involved in the urgent response to the incident, reported early Tuesday morning.
The facility, employing approximately 1,000 people, manufactures materials for various everyday products. Despite requests for comment, Nippon Dynawave has not yet responded.
