Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini highlighted the importance of crop diversification and horticulture as vital pathways to farmers' prosperity. Speaking at a national conference on quality seeds and planting materials, he announced the inauguration of 14 horticulture science centres affiliated with Maharana Pratap Horticulture University.

These centres will focus on providing advanced technologies, quality planting materials, and guidance to farmers. Saini stressed that diversification into horticulture farming is increasingly crucial for financial stability, given challenges like limited land, groundwater depletion, and climate change.

To boost the sector, programmes for Masters and PhD studies in critical areas such as post-harvest management and pest control will begin soon. Saini also noted India's standout production in fruits and vegetables but acknowledged ongoing losses due to quality deficits in produce and materials.

He announced that 21 horticultural crops would have protected prices under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana to mitigate risks faced by farmers. The chief minister conveyed the state's ambition to double horticulture output and triple the sector's production by 2030, reinforcing a strong drive towards economic growth in agriculture.
