Tensions Rise: Ukrainian Drone Incident at Europe's Largest Nuclear Plant
A drone, reportedly Ukrainian, hit the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant without damaging key equipment. Rosatom, Russia's state nuclear firm, called it a deliberate attack, but Ukraine denied the claim, labeling it propaganda and adhering to international law regarding nuclear facilities.
A drone incident at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, Europe's largest, has escalated tensions. Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear company, claimed the attack, allegedly by a Ukrainian drone, struck the turbine hall of Power Unit No. 6, but acknowledged no damage to critical equipment.
Rosatom's head, Alexei Likhachev, insisted the strike was deliberate and resulted in a significant structural impact, leaving a hole in the hall wall. However, Ukraine swiftly countered the accusations, dismissing them as propaganda, asserting their compliance with international humanitarian laws.
This incident, amidst the ongoing war, has reignited fears over the safety of the plant, which has been under Russian control since March 2022 in the volatile southeastern region of Ukraine.
