Trump to Headline Controversial 250th Anniversary Event Amid Performer Exodus
U.S. President Donald Trump is set to headline an event for America's 250th anniversary on the National Mall. Several musical performers have withdrawn due to its association with Trump. Organizers are contemplating changes, and Trump suggests replacing concerts with a rally, claiming he is a bigger draw.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been announced as the headliner for an event commemorating America's 250th anniversary on the National Mall next month. The decision follows the cancellation by several performers concerned about the association with Trump, according to event organizers who communicated with the Washington Post.
The planned concerts were part of the Great American State Fair's opening ceremony, scheduled from June 25 to July 10, 2026. The fair, managed by Freedom 250, was set to span the National Mall with attractions like state pavilions and musical acts. However, recent cancellations, including Bret Michaels from the band Poison, who cited the event's unexpected partisanship, have cast doubt on the lineup's stability.
Despite the lineup changes, President Trump, in a Truth Social post, suggested that if further artists withdraw, the concerts might be unnecessary. Proposing an 'AMERICA IS BACK Rally' instead, Trump claimed his presence is more appealing than musical acts. Freedom 250, however, remains noncommittal about possible program changes.
