The main union at Colombia's state-run oil company Ecopetrol, USO, called a 24-hour strike on Tuesday to protest a deadlock in negotiations over the collective bargaining agreement, the union said in a statement.
USO did not immediately specify the exact time the work stoppage began, but workers at Ecopetrol's Barrancabermeja refinery told Reuters that workers are currently blocking access to the industrial complex. "There has been no progress in the dialogue due to the lack of response, negligence, and stalling tactics from Ecopetrol's Corporate Vice President of Organizational Talent, Victoria Sepulveda,” said the statement, published on the USO's X account.
Ecopetrol did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It is Colombia's largest company and one of the leading integrated energy groups in the Americas, with more than 18,000 employees.
