The Cincinnati Reds placed second baseman Mike Moustakas on the injured list, the club announced prior to Sunday's series finale against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Moustakas, who was 4-for-8 with a homer and four RBIs in his first two games, woke up Sunday morning feeling sick.

The news comes one day after the Reds announced that Matt Davidson tested positive for the coronavirus. Davidson was the Reds' designated hitter in their season opener on Friday. "He woke up not feeling well," manager David Bell said of Moustakas, who signed a four-year deal with Cincinnati after hitting 35 home runs for Milwaukee in 2019.

"We're hopeful that it's nothing. As you can imagine, we're just very hopeful that it's nothing and he'll back. ... Hopefully, we're just being overly cautious." Cincinnati outfielder Nick Senzel was also a late scratch before Sunday's game, but no reason for the move was given.

There are no minimum amount of days a player is to spend on the injured lift if dealing with COVID-19. According to Major League Baseball, a player needs to receive two negative tests at least 24 hours apart before being activated. Also on Sunday, the Reds recalled catcher Tyler Stephenson and claimed off infielder Robel Garcia off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.
