New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman left New York's game at Miami after just six pitches Tuesday due to a recurrence of left knee discomfort.
He is expected to undergo an MRI exam Wednesday, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Chapman, trying for his 32nd save of the season, entered in the 12th inning and walked Marlins leadoff hitter Isaac Galloway on five pitches. After throwing a high pitch to Rafael Ortega, the New York left-hander signaled to the dugout.
Boone and trainer Steve Donohue came to the mound, and Chapman soon exited the field with them. Tommy Kahnle entered and got the last three outs for his fourth career save and his first since 2016 as the Yankees completed a 2-1 win.
"It was his knee again that did not feel right," Boone said after the game. "The same spot as he's felt before, so just got him out of there. We'll get all the testing done tomorrow just to see what exactly (it is). Usually, it's not an issue for us, but for him to call us out there, obviously we needed to get him out of there."
Chapman was pitching for the first time in exactly a week. He is 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA and is 31-for-33 on save chances. The 30-year-old Cuban native has 84 strikeouts and 27 walks in 47 innings.
