The New Orleans Saints Friday cut wide receiver Michael Floyd, a former first-round pick trying to revive his career.

The Advocate reported the transaction.

The Saints signed Floyd, 28, on Aug. 1, but coach Sean Payton clearly didn't like the shape in which he reported to the team.

"He's a player that has good size and length, but when he's too heavy, his transition and everything else labors," Payton said during training camp. "I thought it was better today, and he's making progress."

The Arizona Cardinals selected Floyd, a Notre Dame product, with the No. 13 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Cardinals released him in December 2016 following a DUI arrest. He was picked up by New England a day later and won a Super Bowl championship with the Patriots.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year contract in 2017, and he played in 11 games after serving a four-game suspension to start the year. He caught just 10 passes, gaining 78 yards, and had no touchdowns.

In 89 career games, Floyd has 256 receptions for 3,859 yards and 24 touchdowns.
