The Cleveland Indians added third baseman Josh Donaldson to their big league roster and reinstated outfielder Rajai Davis from the disabled list during a busy day of transactions Saturday.
Donaldson joined the active roster one day after the Indians acquired him from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for a player to be named later. The 2015 American League MVP hit .234 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in just 36 games this season for the Blue Jays while hampered with injuries.
Davis, 37, is hitting .246 with one home run, six RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 81 games this season. He has been out since Aug. 19 with an illness.
The Indians also promoted right-hander Jon Edwards and catcher Eric Haase from Triple-A Columbus while designating right-hander Evan Marshall for assignment.
Edwards, 30, was 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA and four saves in 34 appearances between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. He appeared in 31 games out of the bullpen with the Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres in 2014 and 2015.
Haase, 25, is looking to make his big league debut after appearing in more than 600 games in the minors. He was the Indians' seventh-round pick in 2011.
The 28-year-old Marshall was 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 10 appearances this season for Cleveland. In his career, he is 4-7 with a 5.15 ERA in 101 games.
