"It was an amazing campaign for us, we came back with 19 medals. We broke several records and some created world records so it was an exceptional campaign for us. I am sure that we will come back with more medals in the upcoming championships. SAI, PCI, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed a lot of support towards us and this has raised awareness as well," Arhan told ANI. "We have come back with 19 medals, just imagine how many medals we will come back with from the next Paralympics. Before the Tokyo Paralympics, our athletes faced a lot of difficulties, they were not able to train, their nutrition took a hit. When we reached Paralympics Village, then also they faced difficulties," he added.

Talking about the difficulties faced by para-athletes at the Games Village, Arhan said: "They had to give saliva samples daily, they were not able to interact with anybody. They used to train separately but still, we were able to come back with 19 medals. From 1968 to 2016, we had just won 12 medals but at Tokyo, we won 19 medals." Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met the Indian contingent. PM Modi was seen personally interacting with each member of the contingent and he wished them luck for the future.

"Because of these 19 medals, the entire country is celebrating. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has supported each and every athlete, he called every athlete, if the country's Prime Minister is supporting the para-athletes, then there can be nothing bigger than this," the Deputy Chef de Mission added. Since making its first appearance at the Paralympics in 1968, India had won 12 medals in total till the 2016 Rio edition. The country has now massively improved upon that entire number at the Tokyo Paralympics. Out of a total of 162 nations, India has finished 24th in the overall medal tally, while its accomplishment of 19 medals is ranked 20th based on the number of medals.

The Gold medalists from the Indian contingent at Tokyo Paralympics were: Avani Lekhara in Women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1, Pramod Bhagat in Men's singles SL3 badminton, Krishna Nagar in Men's singles SH6 badminton, Sumit Antil in Men's Javelin Throw F64, and Manish Narwal in Mixed 50m Pistol SH1.
